Remaining focused at work can be, for many people, a very simple task. But for others, motivation can be difficult to achieve. Even though you’re a person who’s in love with your job, sometimes you can feel your motivation level has sunken far too low, and you can’t seem to get anything accomplished.

In this case, it’s very important to be aware of the situation and admit to yourself that there’s a problem. Don’t be a spectator, don’t let life pass you by!

If days will turn into weeks, and weeks will turn into a couple of months, you need to face the fact that your lack of motivation and tiredness is becoming an every day thing.

You need to realize your work life is suffering from a severe illness!

When you find yourself in this situation, it’s essential to know how to stay motivated at work.

  • Ask for feedback

In some cases this might sound scary, but can be extremely motivating. Why? Because if you’ve done your job well, a great feedback can serve as an ego boost. Otherwise, if your work is lacking in certain areas, the criticism can push you to do your best, in other words – will motivate you!

  • Think about the impact you have

Pushing through can feel a lot easier, especially if you feel like you’re doing a good job and, in addition, you feel like you’re making someone’s life better. You will definitely get up more excited in the morning!

  • Stay away from the clock!

If you’re checking the clock every 5 minutes, time will seem to move even slower.

Just use your checklist to see how many tasks you have left and how many you can cross of.

Make yourself goal oriented, not time oriented, to find more motivation.

  • WOW! I’m sure I can do this!” – Step outside your comfort zone!

In many cases, a lack of motivation can appear when you feel underutilized. Be honest and communicate this to your team leader. Yet, be prepared for new challenges!

Don’t live a life of professional zombie-ing! The best antidote to job-boredom is the unknown. You need new challenges to enhance your skills. But this requires constant curiosity and self-discovery on your part.

It can be a great trick to get yourself out of a funk!

  • Don’t focus on the things you can not control!

Don’t waste your energy focusing on tasks you simply can not handle. If your work duties seem overwhelming, you can always ask someone on your team that might be able to show you how to do it.

Also, it will be easier if you try to approach the project with a positive attitude, thinking that you’re going to use the difficult tasks to gain skills, make new connections and prove yourself and your team that you’re up for anything.

  • Reward yourself

Give yourself something to look forward to. Depending on what you’re trying to get motivated to do, the rewards can range from smaller treats, like a trip to the break room for a fresh cup of delicious coffee as soon as you finish an important task.

Also, if you have a games room at the office, you can challenge a colleague to a FIFA or Mortal Kombat session. Sounds great, right?

  • Take a break

Once in a while, all you need is some time off. If you work too much, it’s a fact that all the coffee in the world can no longer cut it!

Annual leave or official holidays are great ways of recharging the batteries and keeping a clear head, in order to prevent de-motivation.

Also, when you feel overwhelmed, you can just go for a quick walk around the workplace and you’ll see the difference!

Taking breaks at work can make you happier, more focused, productive and motivated.

  • Look for motivation everywhere

Last, but not least, read, watch and listen to motivational materials. You can read books of people you admire or watch movies with positive themes.

Most important is to avoid negativity! Think positively and feel great, even if you have to go looking for a reason! You will feel motivated and you’ll perform better!

It’s important to work with highly motivated and well-liked people. A great team will influence your attitude throughout the day!
